about fsc

The production of wood products often involves destructive logging practices that contribute to habitat destruction, water pollution, displacement of indigenous peoples, and violence against forest workers and wildlife. The international Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) works to combat these problems by encouraging responsible forest-management practices. To get FSC certification, forest operations must meet more than 50 criteria, including selective harvesting, protection of local wildlife, minimal use of chemical pesticides, and the assurance that the rights of workers and communities are respected.
