    the story

Tigerwood flooring is made from Astronium Fraxinifolium grown in Latin and South America, the wood species has a Janka Scale rating of 1870, much harder than Red Oak(1260). Tigerwoods' natural distribution is from Mexico through Central America to Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay. Our product is FSC-certified. Forest Stewardship Council. This means the forests are being managed in a way that ensures long-term productivity and protects local cultures, economies, wildlife, soils, recreation and other uses. So instead of contributing to the destruction of the tropical rain forest in Latin America ,buying this flooring actually helps keep tropical rain forests intact. See Standards and Policies on the FSC website for more details.

    in the community

In June 2005 Latin America at 6 million hectares, was leading the world in the number of hectares of tropical forests certified through the Forest Stewardship Council. Much of the impetus for this growth is that local communities understand the long-term economic benefits of maintaining healthy forests. Becoming FSC-certified has kept the land from becoming converted from forests to slash and burn agriculture only to be abandoned after few short years for new more fertile soil. Under the FSC guidelines, indigenous people have the opportunity to stay near home, earn a livable wage, and have a voice in business operations while contributing towards a healthy forest and environment.
