how do i install or apply it?
Preparation
Careful surface preparation is the most important part of painting. Surfaces should be sound and free of dirt, grease, or wax.
Previously painted surfaces in poor condition should be scraped, sanded smooth, and primed. CAUTION. When scraping or sanding old walls lead may be present and can pose serious health risks. To learn about proper precautions, please visit The Environmental Protection Agency. If the existing paint is in good shape and not stained you may paint directly onto the wall after the wall has been wiped down with a mild cleaner. Remember, a shiny paint will stick to a duller paint, but a dull paint will not stick to shiny paint. If you have a glossy wall you may need to lightly scuff-sand it.
One coat of YOLO Colorhouse primer is recommended before applying paint. Certain colors of YOLO Colorhouse paint will require colored primer. Contact us to find out which primer is right for your application.
Application
YOLO Colorhouse paints can be applied by brushing, rolling, or spraying. One coat of primer is recommended, followed by two coats of paint. For brush application, no thinning is recommended; use a nylon/polyester brush. For roller application, no thinning is recommended; use a 3/8" to 3/4" nap synthetic roller cover. For airless sprayer application, no thinning is recommended; the recommended pressure is 2000 to 2500 psi, using .015" to .021" tip. Conventional sprayer application may require up to one pint of water per gallon for thinning; recommended air pressure is 40-60 psi, fluid pressure 20 psi, and tip size .0042" to .0045" with matching cap. HVLP application may also require up to one pint of water per gallon for thinning; Accuspray 24K.
Drying
Under normal conditions, YOLO Colorhouse dries to touch in 30 minutes and may be top coated after 2 hours. Normal conditions include a dry surface, access to fresh air flow, moderate humidity and temperatures about 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Thick application, high humidity or conditions other than normal will cause a longer dry and cure time.
Clean up
Clean tools and equipment with warm water. Keep a damp cloth handy to wipe up spills as they occur.
how do i maintain it?
Shipping and storage
Unlike conventional products, YOLO Colorhouse is made without formaldehyde preservatives. Therefore, it is possible for mold to grow. Avoid paint contamination by keeping the lid tightly secured when not in use, pouring paint into a paint tray rather than painting directly from the can, thoroughly cleaning and drying brushes prior to use, and being careful not to cough or sneeze into the can.
Do not allow to freeze; paint solids will separate from the water and become unusable. To prolong shelf life, keep between 45°F and 120°F. Weather conditions should be considered when shipping water-based paint products during the winter months. See our shipping policy for more details.
safety
While our paints are low-toxic, people with chemical sensitivities should always test before applying.
