how do i install or apply it?
Preparation
Careful surface preparation is the most important part of painting. Surfaces should be sound and free of dirt, grease, or wax.
Previously painted surfaces in poor condition should be scraped, sanded smooth, and primed. CAUTION. When scraping or sanding old walls lead may be present and can pose serious health risks. To learn about proper precautions, please visit The Environmental Protection Agency. If the existing paint is in good shape and not stained you may paint directly onto the wall after the wall has been wiped down with a mild cleaner. Remember, a shiny paint will stick to a duller paint, but a dull paint will not stick to shiny paint. If you have a glossy wall you may need to lightly scuff-sand it.
Porous walls such as new drywall or plaster should be primed with American Pride Drywall Primer. If you are painting over an extremely dark color with a light color you may want to prime first for better hide.
Application
Environmental conditions are crucial: As with any synthetic, water-based paint, if the air is too hot or too cold, this product will not cure properly. If the air or the surface is too dry, or there is too much moisture in or on the surface, other problems may result. Apply this product between 50-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Apply without reducing using a premium quality brush, roller, pad, or sprayer. For best results, work on one area at a time and paint from a dry area into the adjoining wet paint area. For best performance, apply two coats.
Drying
Under normal conditions, American pride dries to touch in 2 hours and may be top coated after 4 hours. Normal conditions include a dry surface, access to fresh air flow, moderate humidity and temperatures about 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Thick application, high humidity or conditions other than normal will cause a longer dry and cure time.
Clean up
Clean tool as and equipment with warm soapy water, and keep a damp cloth handy to wipe up spills as they occur.
Shipping and Storage
Unlike conventional products, American Pride is made without formaldehyde preservatives. Store in airtight containers. Do not contaminate. If you paint directly from the can, use a moldy brush, mix in unused material or even sneeze into the can, organisms may grow.
Do not allow to freeze; ingredients may coagulate. To prolong shelf life, keep between 45°F and 120°F. Weather conditions should be considered when shipping water-based paint products during the winter months. See our shipping policy for more details.
