    the story

This hardwood flooring has all the benefits of engineered flooring-including superior stability and easy installation-and the look of solid wood. The collections are 5-ply constructed flooring with a high-quality surface layer that makes these engineered floors more stable than solid wood.

EcoTimber hardwood flooring can be nailed down like solid flooring, glued directly to concrete, or "floated" (gluing the planks to each other and not to the sub-floor). Because they are pre-finished, these products do not have to be sanded and finished on the jobsite, and are easy and inexpensive to install.

The finish is a state-of-the-art UV-cured aluminum oxide-among the most durable available, making our product ideal for demanding commercial as well as residential applications. The planks are milled with micro-beveled edges.

Strandwoven Poplar: Winner of Sustainable Industries’ Top 10 Green Building Products of 2010. This product is made from discarded paper and particleboard left over from furniture manufacurers that is cold-pressed into a dense material. This material is then milled into flooring. The result is a flooring material that utilizes waste and extending the life cycle of those resources.

    performance

EcoTimber styles are constructed in an engineered format, with several layers of wood bonded together and topped by a wear layer. Because it’s formed into multiple-ply planks, it’s more stable than solid wood, so it’s less likely to warp, swell or split. It’s also more moisture-resistant, so you can install it just about anywhere. Every plank is manufactured with precision for flawless installation and a clean, classic appearance. The structure is so sound that EcoTimber guarantees it for the lifetime of the floor for residential applications.

Chances are that you won’t need to re-finish an EcoTimber floor, because it comes pre-finished with a low-toxic Aluminum-oxide enhanced, UV-cured acrylic urethane. The Aluminum Oxide process produces a particularly tough surface that resists scuffing.

    at home

Engineered flooring is often made with adhesives that contain formaldehyde, a known human carcinogen that can “off-gas” into your home and cause respiratory problems and skin irritation.

To avoid harmful off-gassing, this flooring is made with a non-formaldehyde glue. Once the adhesive has cured, it is inert (no off-gassing whatsoever). These glues are also superior in performance as they are stronger and more flexible than the urea-formaldehyde glues traditionally used in the wood flooring industry.

    LEED Qualifications:

    • MR-7 - Certified Wood (Strand-woven Poplar qualifies for MR 4.2 - Recycled Content (at least) 20% - instead)
    • IEQ 4.4 - Low Emitting Materials - Composite Wood and Laminate Adhesives (all EcoTimber products)

    in the community

Nearly all the EcoTtimber collections are made from FSC certified wood that has been grown and manufactured in the United States. The EcoVintage Pecan is sourced from other FSC certified forests and the EvoVintage Strandwoven Poplar is made of 100% FSC-recycled wood from furniture scraps. By supporting FSC certified products you are helping the communities where the wood is grown and harvested.

How FSC certification supports the community is outlined in three of the ten FSC Principles.

    1. Recognition and respect of indigenous peoples' rights.
    2. Maintenance or enhancement of long-term social and economic well-being of forest workers and local communities and respect of worker’s rights in compliance with International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions.
    3. Equitable use and sharing of benefits derived from the forest. Particularly in the tropics, FSC certification helps local communities manage their forests sustainably. This creates an ongoing source of income while maintaining a healthy forest that can provide timber, nuts and other foods, habitat for game animals, fresh water and shade.

    on the planet

As a material, wood is inherently "green," especially in comparison to non renewable resources such as steel and concrete. The manufacturing of a non-renewable building material such as steel studs requires 25 times more water, causes 2 times the water pollution, and creates 3 times more CO2 in the atmosphere. Besides being renewable, wood is non-toxic, energy-efficient to grow and manufacture, as well as recyclable and biodegradable. Wood is the only major building material whose production yields life sustaining oxygen and absorbs the main agent of global warming, carbon dioxide.

Wood can be a truly sustainable resource, but to realize that potential it must be sourced and produced responsibly. Eco friendly wood can come from salvaged, reclaimed and recycled sources, or it can come from ecologically well managed forests and plantations.

FSC certified forestry means forests are managed for ecological health, sustainable harvest levels, and social responsibility. The ecological health includes protecting the wildlife, water, air and soil. By never cutting more than what will grow back, they ensure sustainable harvest levels.

Giving workers and communities a fair share helps create vibrant, sustainable local economies. By developing responsible forest management practices, the FSC is ensuring that existing forests will be around for future generations to come. Forest ecosystems are often destroyed to make way for tree plantations, so FSC certification is essential even with plantation-grown wood. FSC does not certify plantations that replace natural forests.

    where can i use it?

Engineered wood floors are more moisture-resistant than solid wood flooring, which makes them suitable anywhere.

    how much do i need?

Measure the space you would like to install the flooring in. Once you have the total square footage, add a minimum of 10% overage to account for trimming and cutting at the job site.

For additional plank dimensions refer to the colors & styles tab and click on the style name.

    how do i install it?

It’s so easy to install engineered flooring that many homeowners do it themselves. The middle layer of each plank is milled with a tongue and groove edge so that the interlocking edges click together and remain intact. This floor can be "floated," an installation process where the planks are glued to each other and not to the subfloor; just about any existing floor, including a concrete slab, can serve as a substrate for a floating installation.

Alternatively, the planks can be stapled or nailed down over a wood subfloor. In all cases, the substrate must be dry, clean, and structurally sound. In some circumstances, you’ll need to lay down a 6 mil polyethylene for a moisture barrier before installing .

    how do i maintain it?

EcoTimber is treated with a scratch resistant finish. To reduce the likelihood and frequency of scratches we recommend the following tips:

    • Felt padding should be permanently affixed to the legs of all furniture before it is moved into the space.
    • Do not allow people to wear spiked heels on the floor, which will severely damage even the hardest wood floors and finishes.
    • Pet claws should be properly trimmed at all times.
    • Work boots and shoes that may have pebbles lodged in the soles should be removed prior to entering.

Water and hardwood floors don’t mix. Never wet-mop your floor, and always clean up spills and standing water as soon as possible. With water or any other cleaning agent, be sure to thoroughly ring out the applicator or mop prior to applying it to the floor. A damp mop is fine as long as the moisture is limited to an amount that will evaporate almost immediately. Moisture that is allowed to seep into the seams between the planks may cause damage to your flooring. Do not allow soiled mats or rugs to stay on the floor as they can trap moisture on the surface.

Vinegar mixed with water (applied with a slightly damp mop – never wet-mop) is also effective at removing scuffs, dried spills, and dust film can also use vinegar & water or mild detergents can also use vinegar & water or mild detergents. Floor waxes, oil soaps, and petroleum-based cleaners should not be used under any circumstances.
