where can i use it?
OSMO Wood Wax Finish is suitable for all interior wood surfaces including floors, furniture, cabinets, doors, toys and table tops. This finish is recommended for rooms with high moisture content like kitchens and bathrooms because its microporous, allowing moisture to evaporate from the wood without causing the finish to peel, blister, or crack.
how much do i need?
OSMO Wood Wax Finish never needs a primer.
how do i install or apply it?
The wood surface must be clean with a maximum moisture content of 20%.
All non-porous stains (polyurethane based) must be removed from wood.
Sand wood no finer than 120 grit (100 grit for very hard woods).
Do a trial application on a scrap or in a hidden spot. You can deepen the color by applying a second, thin coat after the first one dries. You can also mix colors.
Application
Open windows. Make sure ventilation is good.
Stir the finish slightly. Don't thin.
Using a stiff OSMO brand brush or a clean cloth, apply a thin coat evenly and thoroughly. Brush or rub in the direction of the wood grain. We recommend an OSMO brush because its short bristles were designed to work efficiently with this finish [link to OSMO floor brush].
Remove all excess wax from the surface using a clean cloth.
Drying
Wait 12 hours between coats, and 12-24 hours after the final coat before regular use.
Storage
OSMO Wood Wax Finish can be stored for five years.
If the can freezes, the finish may thicken but it will regain normal consistency and be ready to use after two or three days at room temperature. Freezing doesn't ruin this product.
how do i maintain it?
OSMO wood wax finish may be cleaned with vinegar and water or a mild detergent such as Wash and Care.
Stains can often be removed with OSMO Liquid Wax Cleaner [link to OSMO Liquid Wax Cleaner], which will also freshen up the surface.
For scratches, it is possible to spot sand and reapply the stain. However, keep in mind that newly sanded wood will look different than the surrounding area. One technique is to mask off to the edges of the boards surrounding the repair area. Then sand to the edges of the boards. This way any variation in wood tone will line up with the edges of the boards. After sanding, reapply OSMO Wood Wax Finish in the same way as it was applied for the surrounding area.
