  • overview

    the story

Based in sunflower oil, iron oxide, organic pigments, and titanium dioxide pigment, OSMO One Coat Only is made from readily renewable resources.

One Coat Only is a semitransparent stain suitable for interior and exterior use. It colors the wood but the grain still shows. This product has unusually high solids content (the part of a finish that remains on the wood after the finish dries) of 85 percent, allowing it to cover up to three times as much area as exterior stains with only 15 to 40 percent solids.

    performance

OSMO One Coat is easy to apply with just one coat, and the high coverage rate makes it economically efficient.

The finish will not peel, crack, blister, rub or flake off and dries to a satin sheen. One Coat is resistant to water, dirt and abrasion.

OSMO One Coat Only is suitable for both interior and exterior use. A semi-transparent finish, it colors the wood but allows the natural grain to show through. The pigments in OSMO One Coat Only provide excellent protection against ultraviolet rays from the sun which would otherwise destroy the wood fibers by degrading the lignin (the substance that hold the fibers together). Darker shades of stain provide more protection against ultraviolet rays than lighter shades do.

    where can i use it?

OSMO One Coat Only is designed for any bare wood surface and is suitable for use on both interior and exterior wood, with the exception of floors and decks. One Coat can be used as a stain color under Osmo Polyx Oil for floors.

    how much do i need?

One liter covers approximately 200 square feet.

how do i install or apply it?

    PREPARATION

Wood surface must be clean, frost-free and dry (maximum moisture content of 20 percent).

Old paints and varnishes must be removed. Old microporous stains only have to be cleaned.

On new wood, where possible, apply the finish to all sides of the wood before installation. It's easier and neater.

    APPLICATION

Stir the finish thoroughly. Don't thin.

Use a stiff brush. OSMO brushes are ideal because of their short bristles. Dip the brush into the well-stirred finish and apply in a very thin coat along the line of the wood grain. Brush back and forth to spread out the stain.

    DRYING

    Drying takes about 12 hours.

    CLEANUP

Clean brushes with mineral spirits or the benzene-free OSMO Brush Cleaner.

    STORAGE

Can be stored for five years or longer.

Freezing doesn't ruin this product. If the can freezes, the finish may thicken. But it will regain normal consistency and be ready to use after two or three days at room temperature.

    how do i maintain it?

To clean wood finished with OSMO One Coat, we recommend using mild detergents and power washing if necessary.

We recommend recoating OSMO One Coat every 3 to 5 years.
